Taking the Helm

Recently, my younger sister picked up an immense social project where she is helping donate toys to CHOP. My little sister taking on this project is just one of many examples of young women in the world taking the helm and leading where the next generation will go. So, today I will be focussing this blog on the younger women of my age category (8-14) and sharing the stories of some extraordinary young women.

    The last two weeks have been pretty slow compared to the rest of the time in the experiment. This is because the main focus of the past weeks have mainly been algae control and tank cleanliness. This has been difficult to maintain because the local aquarium does not have any snails in stock.

Throughout the past few weeks, I have been in contact with both ATCC and NanoEnTek regarding the NBT-II cell line. After further analyzation of the protocol provided to me by ATCC technical support and cross-comparison with my own procedures carried out, it was clear that two steps were not carried out. The first instance was not washing the cell lines in Dulbecco Phosphate Buffered Saline. DPBS removes excess serum left behind from medium and inhibits or lengthen the trypsinization period possibly preventing the adherent cells from completely detaching from the bottom of the T-75 flasks. Additionally, during the initial subculturing carried out I was supposed to centrifuge the complete growth medium from the T-75 flask at 125xg for 5-7 minutes and then resuspend these cells in fresh media as an additional culture to keep going. Additionally, I will be purchasing more of the Eve NanoEnTek cell counting slides to further test the viability of my new cells following my initial culturing.

Exploring Modern Cambodia–Nina

After discussing my research progress with T.Margaret over the last week, I decided to first explore modern Cambodia in the wake of the Khmer Rouge Movement before jumping straight into the unit on Czechoslovakia. After researching about Renaissance and Medieval armors, I took inspiration from contemporary garment patterns and combine them with a lot of prominent features of the armors, such as chainmail, layered metal plates and ostentatiously engraved patterns on metal armors.

These are not final sketches, they still need to be cleaned and colored.

So…I’m Back to Being Stalker…

Last year during our first semester, I wrote a blog titled I’m becoming a professional stalker… where I talk about how I have turned into a stalker trying to accomplish two goals: find extraordinary candidates to interview for The Girl Narrative and find their contact information (creepy I know). Now, in our third semester, I am going back to that as I find new girls to interview while transcribing previous interviews (you’ll see a blog about that later).

It was a time period marked by numerous advances in medical biology, microanatomy, histology and other important subdivisions of medicine that represent the emergence of modern medicine. Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, China was forced out of its isolated state. The absolute authority of traditional Chinese medicine was also challenged by the intruding western medical tradition.
