The First One – Natalie

Tonight I submitted the first of three college portfolios I will submit this year. T. Chris was incredibly helpful in the process, choosing work with me and then photographing and editing it. This past weekend, I measured and resized everything so that it was the proper dimensions according to the Slideroom guidelines, and I uploaded and named it all. Continue reading

Identities in Spanish soccer and culture, conclusions of study in Spain – Peirce

For our last week of studying Spanish soccer and culture, T.Dan and I read and discussed two different chapters from a book discussing soccer identities in both Catalonia and País Vasco. Goles y banderas: futbol e identidades nacionales en España by Alejandro quiroga fernandez de soto, is the name of the book, written entirely in Spanish. Continue reading

Can’t Shake the Feeling – Cleo

For those of you who saw Big Love last week, you’ll understand why I was so sore walking into the studio today. Last week I made a lot of headway on my dance. I ruthlessly choreographed until my body simply couldn’t do more. Today I walked in and my body was already at the point of giving up, still aching from tossing myself all about the stage. And so I had a dilemma: how do I meet my impending deadline without hurting myself? I decided I would mark through those last few counts of the song. Continue reading

Painting for Longevity ‘Shipchangsaengdo’ – Mikehyojan

Today, I am going to introduce another genre of Korean folk painting which is called Shipchangsaengdo. For early Koreans, the goal and desire of life was pretty simple: fortune, honor, wealth, longevity, and fertility to have plenty of descendants. Koreans portrayed their hopes for such a life in Korean folk paintings. Among them, Shipchangsaengdo portrays common people’s wish to live long. Continue reading

Project initiation and motivation – Qioachu

I have mentioned Commissioner Farrell many times in my previous blog. However, I have not had a chance to talk about my relationship with him, how I started this project and why I continue working on this.

I met Commissioner Farrell in 2014, before the start of my freshman year, during my visit to Westtown School. He is a friend of my guardian, who is my father’s classmate from HBS, and he currently lives in Havertown. We had dinner together at Iron Hill in West Chester. At that time, he briefly introduced Chester County to me and my parents. That dinner not only helped me to choose Westtown among other schools that accepted me but also laid a solid foundation for my work in Chester County commissioner’s office. Continue reading

The Thesis Hunt Begins -Gwyneth

I’ve gotten to the point in the year where the need to give my research a specific direction has become quite pressing. That is to say, I need to come up with a thesis very soon. Since this is a big and somewhat intimidating step that will determine what I will be doing for the rest of this project, I thought it would be useful to lay out some possible directions I could go in before making any decisions. Continue reading

It’s Working… – Cleo

In the dance studio on Monday, while I vigorously choreographed and drilled, I couldn’t stop thinking about next steps. I was taking in the music and thinking about movement, but at the same time, ideas for the visual piece started popping into my head. This is a huge step for me. It was the first time that I felt that I was looking holistically at my project rather than just at the facet at hand. Continue reading

Assistant Teaching- Alec

After my big, or to me what seemed big, assignment leading a class, things seemed to have calmed down. Perhaps it was just me, but it appeared that after the students put heavy thought into this assignment, they were ready to continue their normal class schedule, which was perfectly fine. I believe that after I lead this one activity, I was fully comfortable with the entire class because I had broken a barrier between just an observer in the class and being a true member of the class.
